Home Town MMA fighter Nick Ring is gearing up for his big chance to fight in front of his home town fans in Calgary on July 21, 2012 against Court McGee as Calgary's first and only UFC fighter.
Nick has trained in Martial Arts since he was 15 years old, he began his fighting career in Muay Thai with a record of 23 - 4. In 1999 he began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Brian Bird and was immediately interested in changing his fighting away from Muay Thai and into MMA. Nick has also fought in boxing and is a silver metalist at the FILA world grappling championships in 2008. Nick's dream has always been to fight in the UFC. His first big MMA show was when he won the Pride Trials and became one of their fighters. From that point Nick was one of the hundreds of guys chosen to be on the Ultimate Fighter "Tuff" Season 11 TV series. He was Coach Tito Ortiz's first pick to be on Team Ortiz. Nick's professional fight record was 10 - 0 when he became a UFC fighter. On the TV series Nick had 2 fights and won both of them. His second fight was against Court McGee but because of a knee injury after that fight Nick had to pull out of the competition. The show had a number of competitors that were getting injurred that season so they decided to allow Court McGee back on even though he had lost to Nick. Court McGee went on to win Season 11 and the UFC fight contract. This upcoming fight will be Nick's forth UFC fight and a great chance for Nick to show that he should have been the fighter to win the Ultimate Fighter show by beating Court McGee again. So far Nick's victories in the UFC have been over Riki Fukuda in Sidney, Austrailia and James Head in Vancouver, Canada.
Champions Creed is a world class facility with the highest level of trainers and competitors. Nick trains at Champion's Creed Martial Arts under Brian Bird who has cornered him in all of his MMA fights. Champion's Creed is the only school in Calgary to have produced a UFC fighter and 4 World Champions. With Nick's high skill set and winning attitude he will be victorious.
